Giveaway

Class chapels!

I hope yours was more worthwhile than mine. [You thought I was actually going to give something away, didn’t you? Shame on you.]

For all you haters out there, take this moment to revel in the delight of a short post.

. . . . .

I’ll be back next Tuesday with some fire. After all, the Messengers are responsible for the content of next Tuesday’s chapel, and we know how much we love those skits. . . .

“Keep near me and you will be safe.”

Daedalus

P.S. Sorry for the odd font. My computer has taken this opportunity to be an excessive bitch. I'll try and get that resolved before next week.

"The Wanderer: Josh, seriously? I would have thought that you, after all the philosophy you've taken, would know better than to think that God is necessary for morality."

Daedalus, you're response to my comment fails on two counts.

Reason #1: I did not say that God was necessary for morality. I said that God was necessary for absolute morality. If you want to create a system of morality apart from God, that's fine, but there is no basis for my following of your system without some obligation to do so from outside of humanity. Otherwise, morality is merely anthropology, practicality, or personal preference.

Reason #2: In reference to all of the philosophy I have taken, I would have you know that my position is in congruence with the ethical intuition of our own Dr. Montgomery, so the number of philosophy classes I have taken have done naught but strengthen my beliefs on this particular viewpoint.

my class chapel sucked as well.
i think it would be a safe assumption to say that ALL of them did.

do these even have a purpose? if so, whatever it is isn't being fulfilled.

The Wanderer: Fair enough. I'll grant you that absolute morality is not possible without a supreme being. However, I disagree with your statement that "there is no basis for my following of your system without some obligation to do so from outside humanity." It seems to me that humanity [I'm assuming by "humanity" you mean "the natural world" or "Nature"] could provide very compelling reasons for one to abide by a human ethical system. After all, is this not what Locke and Rousseau were hinting at with their talk of a "social contract?"
